The 2015 Aboriginal Cultural Festival will be held on July 19th through the 21st in Victoria, British Columbia. The festival is free and affords anyone that attends the opportunity to celebrate the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
Performances
An outdoor theatre in Victoria is where you can see remarkable performances by two local Host Nations. It is interesting to be able to see native groups in cultural dress. What a learning experience for the whole family!
Shows from Aboriginal performers are also on the schedule and a special treat from Alex Wells, the three-time World Hoop Dancing Champion! For many, this is a once in a lifetime experience that is very enjoyable.
Artisans
Various artisans will be displaying original work and have pieces available for purchase. Take home a piece of native jewellery, a carefully created carving, or an original painting. What a great birthday or Christmas gift! There will also be onsite demonstrations from Tom Lafortune and Kelly Robinson. Each visitor can see the artist in action and ask questions to allow you to see into their creative processes.
Packages are also available. Backstage passes are available to the Aboriginal Cultural Festival with privileges to meet the artists and performers. The package includes a two night stay at a 3, 4, or 5 star hotels. The package also includes admittance into the Royal British Columbia Museum.
Authentic Cuisine
Try delicious food from a unique crossover between the Songhees Nation and Chef Roger. Try the fresh salmon, savoury barbeque, traditional clam chowder, and delectable fry bread. There is something for most taste buds.
