Finding the best neighbourhood when you move is important. Oak Bay Village is one of the better neighbourhoods in the Victoria area and provides a close location to downtown. This is a very English-style area known as a genteel enclave. The charming streets and high-end shops make it a popular place for all residents, but living here is quite authentic, especially if you came from across the pond.
You will find plenty of great restaurants, pubs, cafes and places for afternoon tea in the Oak Bay Village area. It's also full of parks, gardens and beaches perfect for a scenic walk or a picnic. The Seaside Touring Route provides a great bike ride and the Chinese Cemetery is full of great history. Overall, this is an excellent area with many attractive qualities.
Oak Bay Village is known as the Palm Tree Capital of Canada and provides oceanside living perfect for new residents. It's modeled after a British neighbourhood and was originally established by the wealthiest residents in the city. The name comes from the Garry Oak, which is the single oak species found in the area. These massive trees provide a unique beauty to the area and some are over four centuries old.
The population of the Oak Bay area is about 18,000 and it's found east of downtown and should of Saanich. The University of Victoria borders the area on one side, as well.
If you're new to the area, the best way to explore Oak Bay is by bicycle. The picturesque views you will find will amaze you and it's one of the areas in the world where you can view both mountains and oceans. The Royal Victoria Golf Course, which is one of the oldest in the area, is found nearby and many beautiful mansions are ready for you to discover along the shores.
Several beautiful gardens are located throughout the Oak Bay Village area and kayakers find this to be a popular area, as well. Whether you're new to Victoria or planning to move here, discovering the Oak Bay area will provide plenty of beauty and fun.
