Image Credit:, we are a few weeks into 2014, but it's not too late to make the most out of the first month of the year. Whether it's getting back on track with a resolution or just getting your mind, body and soul ready for the year, it's time to get yourself in gear. Here are a few ways to kick start your year in Victoria.

Start with the Gym

The first week or three may be difficult, but getting back to the energized self you want means putting in time at the gym. Victoria offers plenty of great choices with classes, nutrition consultants and more. Top gyms and recreation centres in Victoria include:

  • Crystal Pool - 2275 Quadra Street
  • Esquimalt Recreation Centre - 527 Fraser Street
  • Saanich Commonwealth Recreation Centre - 4636 Elk Lake Drive

Other ways to increase your fitness include joining a sports league, training for a marathon or enjoying time jogging on your own.

Challenge your Mind

With all the hoopla of the holidays, our minds may feel exhausted. However, challenging your mind is an important part of moving forward in 2014.

If you have yet to discover the history of Victoria, start now. Choose one of the museums, such as the Royal BC Museum and find out when you can enjoy their exhibits. Some of the historic sites don't even charge a fee to visit.

Quiet Feeds the Soul

After focusing on your physical and intellectual self, it's important to take a little time to focus on your soul. Whether you join a guided meditation class or just spend some quiet time on your own at Gowland Tod Provincial Park, Beacon Hill Park or East Sooke Park, you need to find quiet in the busy world. Put away the music and shut off all the noise. Quiet is good for your body, mind and soul and the serene environment of one of the area parks will help you reconnect as you rejuvenate.

Every year we get a chance to start over and chase new goals. Victoria offers all the things you need to step into a better you. Now it's up to you to get started.
