Those that are new to the Victoria area may be wondering how to get around the city and where to park their cars. You’re ready to explore, maybe start a new job and start getting acclimated to the area. All you need to know is where to park.

There are five parkades, three surface parking lots and 2,000 on-street parking spaces downtown so you shouldn’t have any issue finding a spot. The higher-demand on-street parking spots are not ideal and residents should shoot for the five parkades. Here is a look at where to park in Victoria.

What to know about the city parkades

The first hour of parking is always free and you don’t need a coupon anymore to get this. It’s free on Sundays and holidays and event parking is free Monday through Saturday from 6pm-8am. Park on the lower level for short-term, three-hour parking on Monday through Friday from 8am-4pm. Use the mid and upper levels for longer-term parking.

You can pay for parking with the attendant or pay at a parkade pay station before you exit. Hold on to your entry ticket until you exit or you’ll be charged the day rate. Prices from Monday-Saturday 8am-6pm are $2 an hour charged in 15 minute increments, $12 for the day rate and $4 for motorcycles. The parkades include:

  • Bastion Square Parkade at 575 Yates Street
  • Broughton Street Parkade at 745 Broughton Street (below the Central Library)
  • Centennial Square Parkade at 645 Fisgard Street
  • Johnson Street Parkade at 750 Johnson Street
  • View Street Parkade at 743 View Street

On-street parking

If you decide against the parkades, keep in mind that on-street parking usually has a 90 minute limit. It’s usually free after 6pm but during the day ranges from $1.50-$3.00. You’ll need coins, credit card or a city parking card to pay for it. You can now pay for on-street parking with your smart phone or tablet as well by downloading the free ParkVictoria app.

These are your parking choices around Victoria.
