Summer is a great time to get some sun and enjoy the summer breeze. Why not combine that with all the festivities that an outdoor market has to offer? Here are a few of Victoria’s finest outdoor markets to do just that.
Located at View and Government Streets in downtown Victoria, the entrance to Bastion Square can be seen easily because of its arch. It's right on Inner Harbour, so there is some nice scenery while you eat on the patios of the restaurants that occupy the area. In the outdoor market, you can buy locally made at and watch entertainment.
James Bay Market is a diverse market that is open every Saturday from May thru October. They have a wide variety of products, including fresh, local produce, souvenirs, and an assortment of unique goods.
All of Beacon Street is pedestrian friendly, since they close the street to traffic. Sidney market is set up as a street market, with stalls and vendors flanking the streets. Live musicians also play original music as you shop. It is definitely worth the twenty minute drive from downtown Victoria.
Although the market is located inside the Hudson Building, visitors who are looking for a local taste of Victoria will not be disappointed. There are chef demonstrations and farmer’s market open every Wednesday. Since you can get meals as takeaway here, it would be a great idea to make a picnic on the Inner Harbour.
There is so much variety in Victoria’s outdoor markets. With music, shopping, and food, there is something for everyone to enjoy any day of the year, but especially in the hot days of summer.
