Victoria may not seem like somewhere you'd worry about going to the beach, but there are some great beaches throughout the area. The summer season is a great time for a trip to the beach or one of the many lakes throughout the community. Here's a list of the top choices for your next outdoor adventure in Victoria.
Botanical Beach Provincial Park
This park is about two hours outside of Victoria and provides a great place for the entire family. You can spend time on the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, at the Botanical Beach, enjoying the rock formations and even taking in the many plants and animals.
Cordova Bay Beach
Cordova bay is just a short drive from Victoria and provides a sand and pebble beach with seaside cottages and restaurants close by. It's perfect for year-round exploration, swimming and sunbathing.
Durrance Lake Regional Park
Durrance Lake is found within the Mount Work Regional Park and provides cool, fresh water for swimming, great picnic areas, excellent paths for hiking and plenty of areas for fly-fishing.
Elk and Beaver Lakes
These two lakes are conjoined and provide great family beaches and so much more. With 15 kilometers of trails for walking, great areas for fishing, canoeing and rowing, along with windsurfing and bird watching, this is one of the favorites of locals. You can enjoy the picnic grounds or watch as Canada's Olympic Rowing team trains in the area. Boats are available for renting, as well.
