The Shine Café (now in two locations in Victoria) is a family owned restaurant that specializes in breakfast and lunch. Open from morning to mid-afternoon seven days a week in both locations, this restaurant offers a traditional range of sandwiches, soups and salads, burgers, and breakfast classics.
Where the Shine Café excels is in making each offering unique. From the inclusion of yam into their Gobbler Wrap to the California roll inspired Pacific Omelette, each dish is superb. However, while you are visiting, make sure to try their fabulous Eggs Benedict offerings.
Eggs Benedict and its Cousins
The Shine Café offers 11 versions of the classic English muffin, poached egg, ham and hollandaise sauce dish. Spend two weeks sampling each variety and you won't regret it. The varieties may strike you as a little strange, but they are all worthy variations.
The B-Rys is a southwestern fusion of beans, bacon and chipotle-infused hollandaise on cornbread concoction, while Vanessa's variation channels the Mediterranean with its feta cheese and pesto hollandaise. Each sampling will whisk you to a different corner of the world and show you how delicious a poached egg can be when paired with regional ingredients.
Of course, you should not neglect the other things the Shine Café offers. Their toasted pecan pancakes are amazing, and do yourself a favour and try the oatmeal. This is not the hastily boiled gruel you may remember from your childhood. The Thomson’s pan-fry their oatmeal and top it with fresh lemon curd. You will find yourself scraping the bowl, pulling an Oliver Twist, and asking for more.
Should you find yourself in Victoria, do yourself a favour and stop in at the Shine Café for brunch. Your stomach will thank you for making the decision to eat here. Just don’t be surprised if you find your stomach forcing you to come back for seconds.
